You maybe have the know of the political facts of the Indian situation from the news in America.
But the reality, here in Poona is very calm and quiet. In fact it doesn't seem that anyone is taking too much notice of the whole thing.
Certainly the many westerners here on business or for the Osho Commune don't seem to be leaving.
It seems it sounds worse from the outside than it does here - as is so often in these cases. And if there is war, the fighting will be further north on the borders and not down here. And I don't know anyone who believes there will really be a nuclear war. The fact that you are maybe American makes no difference by the way as America is an ally of both Pakistan and India so you needed worry about that.

So although it can only be a personal opinion, I don't feel that anything is going to happen that will affect life in Poona, or that there is anything to worry about here. Pakistan and India have been making these noises at each other for so many years we have kind of got used to it.
It is just that this round has attracted a lot of international publicity.

Join us in Making Animals count, as well in India!

News is, there is now in India, Poona a cat home for home less and displaced cats. It is a big house and a big garden with a high brick wall around. In the Garden we build two cat-towers to clime, to play or to sit on with a beautiful viewpoint. As well the grass we planted is growing.
We do already have 75 cats and it is in this moment not possible to accept any more cats, because we have not enough money. As well if this place gets overcrowded the cats will no more experience heaven, but experience hell.
So do not bring new cats.

The situation in India to care for all the animals is more difficult, then in the west.
Because it is not jet possible to find people who truly value their pets as family members and companions and not just possessing them as status symbols. (Especially with cats)
Fore that reason this place is a permanent home and not a temporary shelter, where the cats are awaiting for a placement into good homes.

Most of these cats are not wild cats they have been abandoned by owners and found ill and starving.
Some cats have been found dumped alive in plastic bags in garbage places.
We know there is no end to this in finding more and more cats. And we stopped looking for them and decided rather to focus on these cats we right now have.
To provide for this lucky cats comfort and a clean, healthy loving home.

How Dolano got involved into this project.

This nonprofit mission has started on the 28th of May 2001.
It is Ma Sandipa from Germany, who simply could not resist helping this starving, abandoned cats. Her heart and live is fully committed to provide a home and comfort to those lovely cats and she gave her whole money towards it.
Dolano was very touched, when she heard about Sandipas rescue place for cats and her love for animals. That's when Dolano started to give her financial support.
Later on, Dolano become more involved with this project, when Sandipa needed to find a new and bigger place.
With great luck, they found a beautiful house with a big garden, which is perfect. And lucky is that the landlord of this house is very supportive to this project.

Dolano has committed her self, so long it is finical possible for her to pay regular the rent for this house which is 25 000 Rps per month and is helping Sandipa to receive support through donation. Dolano already donated most of her money to build a brick wall around this big garden and many other things, what is needed to make this project possible and comfortable for the cats and the caretakers.

Please support our work in helping homeless and displaced cats, if only once!
Any amount of money we receive is very much valued. It will help us and you can be 100% sure that it is only used for the cat home.

FOOD
There are regular payments each month besides food, which needs to be taken care of. As well for healthcare, medicine, vaccinations and operations.

The most expensive part monthly is the FOOD.
That the cats so easy and fast recover from their illness and stay healthy is as well very much because of the good western cat food we are partly providing them with. Which is now available in Poona.
We do spend each month about 30 000 Rps to 35 000 Rps, for cat try food.

All the cats are vaccinated.
Some still need to go through neuter surgery.
Thanks to Dr. Hatekar, an experienced but busy veterinary, he learned as well in Germany, most of the cats that have been ill are already recovered and some have to stay still in isolation.
For the operations he is giving us the minimum cost and is helping us in many ways to keep the cats disease free.

Adoptions: We do not plane to give away these cats for adoption. Because it is not jet possible or very rare to find people in India who truly value their pets as family members and companions and not just possessing them as status symbols. And for that reason dump them soon again, where we have found them in the first place.
But if there is any request for adoption, then we will be open for this. To adopt a cat will be made very difficult, with going through an interview, checking their homes and leaving us their address and telephone # to stay in contact. So that we can take the cat back if needed. As well we will ask for an amount of donation.

You my think I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one. You may think this all makes no sense, that this is just a small drop on the hot rock. All starts with a small drop on the hot rock and it maybe seems like it does not make any sense. Yes, the only goal we have is to provide for this lucky 75 cats comfort and a clean, healthy loving home.
